You are right on track! I would have said the same thing, but I didn't want to be too presumptuous.
I saw this documentary called, "The Corporation". They interviewed a former stock broker who said that him and his colleagues were all excited about the money they would make when 9/11 occurred. It's pretty pathetic and sad.
I highly recommend the documentary if you are interested in topics such as this.
umm all or most of the pipe lines damaged from the hurricane have been restored that is why the gas prises are going down. Do you people know how the economy works? A major supply line was cut off for a few weeks therfore the prices went up it has nothing to do with greed or evil corporations it has to do with basic economic principles. Gas prices overall are going up because we are running out of sources for oil. The government has refused to allow exploritory drilling in the frozen tundra of alaska and other areas of the gulf coast. The oil companies recognize that alternative fuels will soon gain a foot-hold in the market so they are raising prices out of fear of loosing a share of the market. I suppose we should turn to price fixing until that point that worked well under Carter.
Well, since you know so much about the economy, why don't you forward me something you wrote in college from your ECON 101 class.
I never claimed to be an economics expert. I am an amateur sociologist and philosopher. I made those statements because the only thing I see the end result. Money.
Everything always comes down to money. You know it, I know it, and the whole world knows it. The amount of greed in this country is outstanding. My entire point and argument was that some individuals are going to get rich off another US disaster.
In addition, don't give me your history lessons about Carter or call me a White Elephant. You probably were a zygote or small child when Carter was around.
Moreover, you have no clue as to my political ideology. As I have said a hundred times in my previous posts, I am NEITHER democrat nor republican...I am not a liberal or conservative. I take each issue in a case-by-case situation, gather facts and information in which I form my own opinion. These are things based on humanity, what this country is "supposed" to represent, and what is right and what is wrong.
And you know what? Osama Bin Laden is laughing his ass off at every American right now.
My my we are very defensive. I did take Theory of Market Failure my junior year I could try to scrounge something up but that might be to dry for you. Believe it or not in a capitalist free market society some people will profit from a NATURAL disaster that is just a fact of life. My entire point is that it is ludicrous to blame oil companies for high oil prices they are just playing the economic game like everybody else. I was also trying to point out that soon the supply source for oil will be so scarce that alternative energy sources will become necessary. I was only trying to show that a temporary fix would be to allow exploratory drilling in un-chartered areas of this country. Oil will price its self out of the market once alternative sources are found. We may already be at that point as I have heard many people say they will buy a hybrid car in the future.
I’m not exactly sure what my age at the time of the Carter administration has to do with anything. I guess historical references are irrelevant unless you lived during those times?
I really don’t care if you are a liberal, a conservative or libertarian your particular political ideology is irrelevant but I’m glad you found it necessary to define yourself.
High gas prices are an affect of our economic system if you think there is a better one then go to Europe and see how much they pay for petrol. Blaming oil companies for high gas prices is like blaming a rock for hitting your toe when you drop it. The rock has no choice it is only doing what the rules of gravity allow. Oil companies are only behaving in a manor that the rules allow.
Believe it or not greed has its virtue my guess is you and others would not have jobs if somebody along the way was not greedy at some point. As nasty as it can be at times greed is what keeps this country alive hard to believe but true.
Incidentally have you heard the report that Bin Laden is in poor health? It has been reported that he was recently injured in the leg or back in a battle in Afghanistan so my guess he isn’t laughing at anybody right now.
And miss sensitive my moniker is White Elephant I was not calling you a white elephant I’m not even sure how that could be considered a derogatory term.
"Believe it or not in a capitalist free market society some people will profit from a NATURAL disaster that is just a fact of life. My entire point is that it is ludicrous to blame oil companies for high oil prices they are just playing the economic game like everybody else."
"Miss Sensitive" Michelle: There is nothing wrong with a capitalist free market...I just don't agree with the way greed rules people and those that are already filthy stinking rich just want more and more.
In addition, I never blamed the oil companies...I don't believe I see that at all in my comments.
White Elephant: As nasty as it can be at times greed is what keeps this country alive hard to believe but true.
Michelle: That was my entire point, White Elephant. Money and greed keep the country alive? Maybe it keeps the rich elitist and privleged white people alive, but there are a lot more poor and lower middle class people who aren't surviving on those 'great' jobs the greedy ones created for 'poor little us'.
White Elephant, I just don't happen to agree or have tolerance for people who lust after power and money. There are more things in life that are much more important. That is the only point I am trying to get across.
White Elephant: "High gas prices are an affect of our economic system if you think there is a better one then go to Europe and see how much they pay for petrol."
Michelle: Yes, but did you know that in Europe there are many more alternatives for means of travel? Besides, most Europeans who live in cities ride bikes.
White Elephant: Incidentally have you heard the report that Bin Laden is in poor health? It has been reported that he was recently injured in the leg or back in a battle in Afghanistan so my guess he isn’t laughing at anybody right now.
Michelle: Believe me, I'm sure Bin Laden is still laughing...along with all his followers. And don't forget the rest of the world that hates Americans.
By the way, you don't have to call me Miss Sensitive. That's the last thing I am, trust me. I just like debating.
Thanks for your comments, White Elephant.
PS--I'll let you have the Carter Administration/and your age rebuttal.
