INDIANAPOLIS TEEN MURDERED BY FATHER
Indianapolis, Indiana
September 20, 2005
Investigators now believe that an Indianapolis south side father shot his own children, then stabbed himself.
It happened in Southport Monday afternoon on Gladstone Avenue. The 911 call paints a chilling picture of what went on Monday afternoon. "The little girl that lives next door came running over saying her dad shot her and he has also shot his son, her brother," said the frantic caller.
The little girl is Ashley Brown, 12, who
officials said ran over to Greg Friar's home screaming that she watched her father shoot her 15-year-old brother, Harley, in the head before turning the gun toward her. "He's stabbing himself? She's now telling me that her dad is stabbing himself," the caller continued. "If our little girl hadn't have been sick at school I wouldn't have been here and I don't know what would have had happened to Ashley," Friar said.
Marion County sheriff's deputies said David Brown critically injured himself with a knife. Brown's son, Harley, died from his injuries.
Tuesday, friends and neighbors were still trying to come to grips with the unthinkable. They placed pictures and flowers at the home's blood-stained doorstep. "I just saw him yesterday last period of school. Then, I go to work and hear about this," classmate Robyn Suozzi said. "It just feels like a nightmare".
Investigators said David Brown is the only suspect in the case, but he remains in critical condition. So far, no charges have been filed. "We want to see exactly what happens with him medically," Marion County sheriff's Capt. Phil Burton explained. Friar said he is thankful he was able to help in a tragic situation. "It's very sad, very sad. I'm just grateful to the Lord that he enabled me to be here to help her," Friar said.
Sheriff's deputies recovered the gun they believe was used in the shooting and the knife they believe David Brown used. Officials said they also found 11 more guns inside the home.
Ashley Brown remains in stable condition at Riley Hospital. Harley Brown's friends told RTV6 that Harley did not get along with his father and that he tried to run away from home in May. "He talked about it with his dad and at first he seemed mad, but then he started not to care," said Jon Atkinson, Harley Brown's friend.
The children lived with their father in the home and that Brown and his wife were separated and in the midst of a custody battle. Harley Brown was a Southport High School student.
Sheriff's deputies said they had been called to the home several times in the past. In May, police said Harley threatened to commit suicide. More than 50 knives were found in his room. In 2001, David Brown was reported missing by his wife after he took a $20,000 pay cut at his job.

This poor family! If the father dies that will be too good for him. I can't even find the words to say any more than that.
I loved Harley Brown. He was my brother. I still don't have answers. I still cry every night over night. I love you Harley!!
Rest In Peace!!
