Police: Man stabbed with hanger
Indianapolis, IN
Indianapolis, IN
A man found dead in a Speedway motel had been stabbed with a coat hanger, police said Tuesday. The victim is thought to be James Santelli, a 45-year-old construction worker from Palatine, Ill., who was a member of a work crew installing new windows at Manual High School, Speedway Police Chief Jeff Dine said. Dine said the victim's wallet and pickup truck were stolen.
Housekeepers found Santelli's body in a room at the Super 8 Motel, 2602 N. High School Road, about noon Monday. The man had been stabbed several times, and part of a wooden hanger was lodged in his neck, Dine said.
"Something of such a severe nature usually indicates a great deal of hostility or anger toward the victim," Dine said. "It took a great deal of force."Santelli checked into the motel Friday. Dine said the man was seen about 3 p.m. Sunday buying food at an Arby's restaurant on Crawfordsville Road.
His whereabouts from Sunday night to Monday morning remained a mystery. Two of Santelli's co-workers have been questioned about the attack. They were expected to submit to polygraph tests today, Dine said.
Santelli had developed a friendship with a local woman, but Dine said police do not think she was involved in the attack. Toxicology tests were pending, but Dine said there was no reason to think the victim was intoxicated.
Police are looking for Santelli's truck, a blue 2000 Ford Ranger with a white camper shell and Illinois license plate.
