Hmmm...the guy filed for bankruptcy, owes child support, nasty divorce with ex...it seems fishy to me.
More than three months after the disappearance of her "dear friend" Patrick McDermott, Olivia Newton John remains hopeful that he will return.
Patrick McDermott, 48, Newton-John's on-again, off-again boyfriend of nine years, left on an overnight fishing trip off the California coast on June 30 and did not return with the boat. His belongings were discovered on board the fishing boat and his car was found in a parking lot near the harbor.
While foul play has not been ruled out in McDermott's disappearance, other theories have been floated, including the belief that the cameraman staged his own death to escape financial problems. The Coast Guard has been treating the case as a missing person investigation.
McDermott filed for bankruptcy in 2000, claiming he was more than $30,000 in debt. In April, he became tangled in a legal battle with his ex-wife, actress Yvette Nipar, over late child support payments. The couple have a 13-year-old son together.
"I love him very much and this is very hard to go through," Newton-John said on Good Morning America Monday in her first televised interview about the disappearance. "He has a young son so we still hold out hope that he will come back."
Newton-John, 57, was making the talk show rounds in part to promote her new album, Stronger Than Before. "I really thought of not doing it, but the album is about going through difficulty and getting through it," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I also know that Patrick would want me to do it because he believed in the cause and following through with your commitments. He was a very hardworking committed person, so I made the decision to do it."
The English-born singer declined to offer any theories on what she believes may have happened to McDermott. "It's very much a mystery and speculation has been rife and I choose not to buy into the speculation," she told Good Morning America. "This is such a personal thing for me and his family and we've chosen not to talk about it because it's an ongoing investigation."
