Opponents of a proposed Wal-Mart in Zionsville, Indiana scored a victory this week when a planning commission voted to recommend against the company's rezoning request, but Wal-Mart responded by submitting new plans that would render the vote irrelevant.
Wal-Mart had asked for a rezoning of 12 acres of land to fit a 200,000-square-foot store and other shops Some people in Zionsville oppose the construction of a Wal-Mart store, saying it would take business away from other Zionsville shops. "I think over time it will lessen the traffic here in downtown Zionsville until we're down 20 to 25 percent, and you just can't make that up," said Terri Bracken, who owns a Zionsville toy store.
The planning commission will review Wal-Mart's revised plan in January. A Wal-Mart spokesman said the company is confident that the plan will meet or exceed ordinance guidelines for the property.
See how low Wal-Mart will stoop to get people in their stores?
