An Alexandria police officer accused of offering a woman money for sex is now on administrative leave without pay. According to court documents, 25-year police veteran Richard Santos offered an 18-year-old money for sex while on duty this summer. Santos has been on paid leave since September.
The Alexandria police chief has recommended the officer be fired. "We still haven't decided on whether he's guilty or innocent and until we go through due process, I think this is appropriate," said Alexandria city councilmember David Steele.
Santos is charged with one count of promoting prostitution and one count of official misconduct, both felonies. If convicted, he faces up to 11 years in prison.
