Henderson had a troubled relationship with his parents, Richard and Jeaneane Henderson, 48 and 42, a neighbor said. They tried to get him help for a drug addiction, but the efforts failed, the neighbor said.
On Friday, Henderson -- who had been living with his parents, his 12-year-old brother, Jason, and 82-year-old grandmother June Henderson -- checked in at the Guesthouse International Inn in Ellenton near the intersection of U.S. 301 and Interstate 75. He paid cash and stayed in Room 230, a smoking room with a king bed, hotel employees said.
Henderson, who authorities said has a 16-year-old girlfriend, was accompanied by two younger girls in dark clothing, with black lipstick and black fingernail polish, hotel employees said. When they departed the hotel room Sunday morning, they left behind scattered Mountain Dew cans and Cinnamon Toast Crunch all over the floor, said Teyonna Upshaw, the housekeeper who cleaned the room.
One guest in a nearby room, who gave her name only as Beth, said Henderson spoke with her about 4 a.m. Sunday. She said he asked if she knew anyone who wanted to buy a 60-inch television or a computer. He told her they were at his mom's house in Myakka City, which is the mailing address for the Henderson residence, she said.
Henderson returned to the family house Sunday morning about 10:30 a.m. and was confronted by relatives grown worried because they had not heard from Richard and Jeaneane Henderson in a couple of days. Henderson confronted a relative outside his parent's home and told him not to go in because his folks were fighting, authorities said. When the relative and neighbors entered the house, they saw evidence of the slayings and called authorities.
