Feels entitled to certain things as "their right." Craves adulation and attendance. Must be the center of attention with their own fantasies as the "spokesman for God," "enlightened," "leader of humankind," etc. Creates an us-versus-them mentality


Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and able to pass lie detector tests.


Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.


Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion, it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.


Incapacity for Love
While they talk about "God's love" they are unable to give or receive it. Since they do not believe in the genuineness of their followers' love, they are very harsh in testing it from their devotees and expect them to feel guilt for their failings. Expects unconditional surrender.


Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge, yet testing the beliefs of their followers with bizarre rules, punishments and behaviors. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal.


Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. Their skills are used to exploit, abuse and exert power. Since the follower cannot believe their leader would callously hurt them, they rationalize the behavior as necessary for their (or the group's) own "good" and deny the abuse. When devotees become aware of the exploitation it feels like a "spiritual rape" to them.


Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others. The followers only see them as near perfect.


Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.


Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blame their followers or others outside their group. Blame reinforces passivity and obedience and produces guilt, shame, terror and conformity in the followers.

Totalist leaders frequently practice promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts. This is usually kept hidden from all but the inner circle. Man clings to car windshield wipers to stop shoplifters outside Ohio Kmart

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Two women suspected of shoplifting at a Kmart outlet almost got away with it — until they tangled with Michael Cornwell. Cornwell clung to their car's windshield wipers for about a mile — at speeds he estimated at 70 to 80 mph — before the driver pulled into a mobile home park and the women fled.

The suspects were later arrested on charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and theft. Perfume, cologne and other items were found in the car, police said. "I don't believe in shoplifting," Cornwell said.

Cornwell, his fiancee and his mother were headed into a Kmart about 10:30 p.m. Friday when two women ran from the store chased by employees.Cornwell stepped in front of their car and told the women to stop. After he ignored the driver's demand to move, the driver bumped Cornwell twice with the car before he jumped on the hood and she stepped on the gas, according to police in nearby German Township. "I heard my momma scream," said Cornwell, who wasn't hurt. "I was just hanging on for dear life."

CHRISTMAS RAMPAGE CLAIMS 5 LIVES

Police said Monday that a Virginia man who killed four people, then himself, on Christmas Day had a history of mental problems.

Still, police were trying to determine a motive for the rampage. "Perhaps we'll never be able to answer the question that is most prevalent, and that is why," said Col. David Rohrer, chief of the Fairfax County, Va., Police Department.

"This is obviously a complex investigation with separate crime scenes and five victims. The events ... have certainly shocked and saddened us all," said Rohrer.

Investigators believe Nathan W. Cheatham shot and killed his mother in the driveway of her McLean home. He then drove 10 miles to a home in Great Falls and fired more than 50 shots that killed three other people, before turning the gun on himself.

Cheatham, 27, had been arrested on several occasions by Fairfax County police for what they described as "minor infractions."

He had been living with his mother, Sheila G. Cheatham, 53, for at least two weeks. He had also stayed with his two brothers at another location in Fairfax County. Police are hoping they can learn some indication of his demeanor, which may lead to an understanding of what led him to go on a rampage.

Police believe he broke into the second home and systematically went from room to room, fatally shooting Janina C. Price, 50, and her son Adam S. Price, 19, who both lived there, and Christopher J. Buro, 20, of Great Falls, who was visiting.

Another member of the Price family hid in the basement and was able to call for help as Cheatham opened fire. He escaped after the gunfire stopped.

Police said Cheatham was an acquaintance of the Price family. He had called them earlier in the day and was asked not to go to the home.

"There was a phone conversation between Nathan and somebody at the house," said Maj. Bob Callahan, commander of the police department's criminal investigation bureau.

Four spent clips from the 9 mm handgun were found at the house in Great Falls, an upscale suburb about 17 miles west of Washington. Cheatham also had other unused ammunition in his possession.

The body of one man was found in a bedroom closet. Another victim was found by a bed in a separate bedroom. Mrs. Price was found in the master bedroom on the second floor. Each had been shot several times.

"It appeared that they probably were still asleep or in their rooms when everything started," Callahan said.

Cheatham's body was found in the master bedroom with what police called a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

One of two black Labrador retrievers owned by the Price family was shot three times, but was treated by a veterinarian and is expected to survive.

Porn Star bedded 15-year-old, plied him with drugs

DECEMBER 23--Meet Genevieve Elise Silva. The 20-year-old California woman, who stars in porno movies sold online, is being sought by police for having sex with a 15-year-old boy whom she also allegedly provided Ecstasy, pot, and speed.

According to police, Silva met the boy through her younger brother, who was a high school friend of the alleged victim. Richmond Police Department investigators claim that Silva carried on an illicit relationship with the teenager between June and October of this year. She also allegedly convinced the teenager to run away from his Bay Area home and move with her to Oklahoma.

A $10,000 felony arrest warrant charges Silva with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and rape. She is pictured below in a California driver's license photo. On a pornographic web site advertising her videos, Silva (who goes by just "Elise" professionally) is described as a "progressive music lover who plays the bass guitar in a garage band when she's not thinking about sex--which is about 20 minutes per day!"

The bio also notes she is "multi-orgasmic" and a "deep throat lover."

ACTOR BRAD RENFRO ARREST IN DRUG STING

This doesn't suprise me one bit...he's had a history of drug and alcohol problems and he's only 23. I hope he gets his life straightened out because he is a very talented actor.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Actor Brad Renfro was arrested in a sting operation after he allegedly tried to buy heroin near downtown's Skid Row, police said.

Renfro, 23, was booked for investigation of felony attempting to possess heroin, Detective Ron Hodges said. "He was intending to buy real heroin from an undercover officer," Hodges said.

Renfro, the star of the 1994 film "The Client," was caught during a random sting operation Thursday that resulted in the arrests of 14 other suspects, Hodges said. Renfro's lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment placed after business hours Thursday.

The actor was charged in 1998 with possession of cocaine and marijuana, but avoided jail time in a plea deal. He was sentenced to two years' probation in January 2001 on charges of trying to steal a yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was arrested in May 2001 and charged with underage drinking. The next year, he was charged with driving without a license and public intoxication. Both violated terms of his probation. Renfro was ordered into an alcohol rehabilitation program in March 2002. His movie credits include "Sleepers", "Bully", "Tart" "Ghost World," and "Apt Pupil."

4-YEAR OLD TESTS POSITIVE FOR METH

Lebanon, Indiana

Police said they found an active meth lab in a home in the 600 block of East South Street Tuesday. Officials said the lab was hidden behind some Christmas presents in the basement of the home.

A 4-year-old child inside the home tested positive for methamphetamine. That child and two others, ages 2 and 6, were taken from the home and later released to a family member.

Harold B. Harris, 21, of Kirklin, and Jeremiah P. Fearrin, 25, of Lebanon, were charged with dealing in methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies.

Bernice Rood, of Lebanon, was also arrested Wednesday on a probation violation charge stemming from the incident. She was being held in the Boone County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

TAVARES, Fla. - An 18-year-old passenger who caused a fatal crash by pulling on the steering wheel pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter after prosecutors discovered a confession on his online blog.

Blake Ranking wrote "I did it" on his blurty.com journal three days after the October 2004 crash that caused a friend's death and left another seriously injured. He had previously told investigators he remembered nothing of the crash and little of its aftermath.

Blake was sitting in the back seat as he and then-17-year-old friends Jason Coker and Nicole Robinette left a party when he pulled the steering wheel as a prank, causing the car to somersault off the road. His blood alcohol content after the crash measured 0.185, more than double the legal limit. Robinette, who was driving and had no traces of drugs or alcohol in her system, was seriously injured. Coker lay in a coma at Orlando Regional Medical Center until he died Jan. 11.

"It was me who caused it. I turned the wheel. I turned the wheel that sent us off the road, into the concrete drain ..." Ranking wrote in the blog. "How can I be fine when everyone else is so messed up?" Ranking later retracted his words, deleting them from the blog and penning an explanation. "People say I 'contradict' myself since I 'already admitting pulling the wheel.' I didn't 'ADMIT' anything. I went on a guilt trip, and I posted the story that I WAS TOLD . . . Nicole told me I pulled the wheel, I believed her," he wrote.

Still, the confession forced him to plead guilty Monday to manslaughter charges. He could have gotten 15 years in prison, but defense lawyer John Spivey and Assistant State Attorney Julie Greenberg recommended five years in prison, 10 years of probation and a permanent license suspension. Circuit Judge Mark Hill agreed to impose the sentence Dec. 28.

Greenberg said she had planned to use the blog as evidence, a first for the office covering Lake, Citrus, Hernando, Marion and Sumter counties, but almost certainly not the last. "Anytime a defendant confesses, that is very relevant and important," she said.

Ranking posted the lyrics to Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" the day of Coker's funeral, but prosecutors said his remorse was not always apparent in his blogs, which included entries railing at Coker's mother because she asked him to stop calling and coming to the hospital. "He lost the best friend he ever had," Spivey said in Ranking's defense.

Ken Coker, Jason's father, said his family never wanted prison time for Ranking, but they wished Ranking would stop writing about them because they felt the blog was insensitive. He said Ranking would benefit more from psychiatric counseling. "There's not enough forgiveness in the world," he said.

PRIEST CHARGED WITH GROPING TEEN AT MOVIE

MARBLE FALLS, Texas (AP) — A Roman Catholic priest accused of groping a 16-year-old boy at a movie theater during a showing of "King Kong" has been charged with indecency with a child by sexual contact. Father Paul M. Clogan, 74, was arrested Friday as he left the theater.

Clogan sat next to the teen in the theater and the boy who did not know Clogan, told investigators the priest groped him about an hour after the movie started. Clogan was serving at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bay. He has been removed from active ministry until the case is resolved.

TARA GRINSTEAD--REWARD DOUBLES

Ocilla- The reward in the case of Missing Georgia teacher, Tara Grinstead is going up to $200,000. There will be a press conference tomorrow to announce a $100,000 increase in the reward is expected. A private citizen working with both the Grinstead family and the relatives of missing teen Natalee Holloway, says the money has been donated anonymously. $100,000 has already been raised.



No one really knows for certain precisely what Tara did after she pulled into her little carport that night. Neighbors would later say that they heard her dog barking, but that was hardly unusual.

A creature of habit, she turned on the nightstand lamp, her signal to neighbors Joe and Myrtle Portier, even though she knew they were already asleep. She plugged her cell phone into its charger and changed out of the clothes she had worn that evening. She dropped them on the divan beside her bed. Later, they would be found there, partially hidden under a pile of other garments, many of them still on hangers.

But there was something else Tara had been grappling with, her close friends knew. For months, she had been bouncing between emotional extremes while trying to come to terms with the end of her six-year relationship with Marcus Harper. She had hoped they might marry. But Marcus had other plans. His stint in the Army Rangers had opened a whole new world for the former Ocilla cop, and now, serving as an independent consultant traveling often to war torn Iraq, he and Tara had become very different people.

Though Tara ended the relationship, she remained deeply disturbed by its failure, by all accounts. As many of the people closest to her would later say, despite it all, she remained deeply in love with him.

Clues to Ponder:

• The devoutly religious 30-year-old failed to show up for church services. It was when Tara Grinstead wasn't greeting students with her welcoming smile on Monday morning, October 24, that co-workers and friends realized something was wrong.

• Her cell phone, which she never left the house without, was still inside on the charger.

• Her bedroom lamp was knocked askew and her digital alarm clock had apparently fallen to the floor and was six hours off.

• The driver's seat on Tara's car had been pushed back further than the 5-foot-3 woman would have been likely to favor it.

• There was a latex glove discovered (the kind worn by doctors, and paramedics and cops) on Tara's front lawn.

• Harper, Tara's ex-boyfriend was a former Ocilla police officer who still had strong ties to the department.

• Investigators interviewed Harper, Dykes, and others she dated, among them Rhett Roberts, the son of the couple who rented the house to Tara, whom she had dated briefly following her breakup with Harper.

• They also quizzed young Anthony Vickers, a 20-year-old former student who had developed an unhealthy attachment to the young teacher, and was once arrested on a disorderly person's charge after banging on Tara's door repeatedly.

• Even though authorities had not identified him as such, Harper then retained an attorney, Thomas Pajadas, a local lawyer for whom Harper's father works as a paralegal.

• There was a report that Harper and Tara had been seen arguing in the days before her disappearance.

• Harper claimed in a statement that Tara had threatened to commit suicide, and added that Tara had returned later that day and asked him for a hug, apparently indicating that it would be the last time.

• Since his interview last week with Greta Van Susteren, Harper has declined other requests for interviews.

MUNCIE, Ind. — An English-speaking man’s efforts to rob a Mexican restaurant were foiled by a worker who spoke only Spanish and another who pretended not to know English, police said.

James Adams, 44, acted as if he had a gun and ordered an employee at Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant and Cantina to open a cash register. The employee did not speak English and was confused about what was happening. A second employee acted as if he did not speak English, stalling Adams while another employee and a customer called police.

Police arrived and arrested Adams on charges of attempted robbery and robbery. Adams is believed to have committed at least one other robbery in the past three weeks. Adams admitted robbing Pleasures, an adult novelty store, on Nov. 28, 3005.

“Most of our robberies all lead back to a drug addiction and that’s what was going on with him,” Williams said.

Biography and Personality

Molly is the youngest of nine children. She was born in Madison, Indiana and lived there until she attended college after her senior year in high school. She is a talented achiever and excels in academics, athletics, and music. At the universities she attended, she received A’s, even in the most challenging of classes.

She excelled at running and while in high school she placed in the top eleven in cross country and the top seven in track three years in a row at the state level. During her senior year, she competed in an All-State competition where she placed fifth in the mile run. Molly was known to talk to the participants from many of the other teams during state meets and would congratulate them at the finish line making herself known in the running community throughout Indiana.

Additionally, Molly is also a talented singer and would often sing the National Anthem at the high school athletic games and had since engaged in singing karaoke in her spare time.

She is loved by those that know her in the small town where she grew up and was known to stop to visit many community members at their homes and businesses to chat about life. She enjoyed talking on the phone with friends and family members on a regular basis .

Molly is gregarious and friendly and often goes out of her way to help people demonstrating her compassion and unconditional love for others. Molly is very non judgmental of people and sometimes chooses to talk to those she perceives as disadvantaged desiring to help them in their life not realizing that they may pose a danger to her.

Molly has a trusting nature from being raised in a small town and has never lived in a city as large as Indianapolis before. Molly's activities the day she disappeared point to the conclusion that she did not leave of her own free will and we are extremely concerned for her safety.

(MADISON, Ind., November 30th, 2004) -- Molly Dattilo, an Eastern Kentucky University student with ties to Louisville, disappeared last summer. Her friends and family have always suspected foul play, and police now agree she was most likely abducted.

The investigation into the disappearance of Molly Dattilo, who vanished without a trace from outside her Indianapolis apartment on July 6, 2004, now centers in Morgan County, Indiana, a rural community about an hour south of Indianapolis. Police have asked local residents to look for evidence, including "anything suspicious, such as clothes or shoes, especially in rural cornfield areas."

Dattilo's family has always suspected their loved one is the victim of foul play. Now, after months of waiting and worrying, a new investigator -- Morgan County Sheriff's Detective Sergeant Volitta Fritsche -- has given them hope that they'll learn Molly's fate. "I was thrilled to hear that it was being taken seriously and that she felt foul play had occurred, so yes, that was a triumph in my eyes," said Molly's sister, Kendra Skidmore.

Tom Dattilo, Molly's cousin, who is also a criminal attorney in Madison, Indiana, has conducted his own investigation into Molly's disappearance. "If Morgan County's involved and it's a small town investigator, we hope she does a good job," he said. "We believe she has an interest and if they have interest, maybe they can do a real good job."

Dattilo said alerting farmers may help find key evidence, including Molly's remains. "Possibly Molly is there," Dattilo said, asking that farmers "be aware that when they're doing their plowing, etc., they check for the possibility of finding her." The family wants locals to look for a shallow grave, he said.

Molly was on her way to fill out a job application at a fast food restaurant on the day she disappeared. Her family has scoured the nation looking for her ever since. M.I.A? SATISH KALPOE WANTED BY AMERICAN CITIZENS FOR QUESTIONING

Again I ask:

Where is Satish Kalpoe? Why is it that he's never been mentioned and the public has never heard from him? Not a peep. I wonder if he's trying to stay out of the limelight because he's weak and might crack. It's obvious that Joran and Deepak don't have a problem with handling the media, police and interrogations considering their sociopathic demeanor and attitude.

Let's find out information and investigate Satish! He's the only other "person of interest" that hasn't talked and he knows the answers.

My theory: Joran did the deed, Deepak was the ring leader, Satish was in along for the ride, and PVDS was in charge of cover up.

There are always those people who have to be negative towards people who are trying to help. And their disgust for Beth is completely evil. Where do these people come from? Up until now, I've never realized there are so many evil and mean-spirited people in this world. I guess that's what happens when you grow up in a good family and learn basic moral backgrounds.

You know you've wanted to do this when those people come to your door. I just hide...but they always know I'm in there. I swear, they'll ring the doorbell about 10 times before they leave!

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) — A woman who used a butcher knife to beat a Jehovah's Witness who knocked on her door on Christmas Day was sentenced to three months in jail.

Cathy Infusino, 52, was also ordered Thursday to spend three months in a work program and serve three years of probation. She pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon.

Infusino was paranoid and was being harassed by neighbors at the time of the attack, said her lawyer LeRue Grim. "She wasn't mentally well enough to understand the situation," Grim said. "She thought someone was trying to harm her or hurt her."

The Jehovah's Witness had shown up at Infusino's apartment by mistake and was looking for a neighbor who was interested in the religion. She apologized for the error and tried to leave, but Infusino grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into the apartment. Grim said Infusino is taking medication now and seeing a psychiatrist regularly.

Comedian Richard Pryor died today. He had been ill for years with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system. Pryor lived dangerously close to the edge, both on stage and off. Born in 1940 in Peoria, Ill., Pryor grew up in his grandmother's brothel. His first professional performance came at age 7, when he played drums at a night club. Following high school and two years of Army service, he launched his performing career, honing his comedy in bars throughout the United States.

He was regarded early in his career as one of the most foul-mouthed comics in the business, but he gained a wide following for his universal and frequently personal routines. After nearly losing his life in 1980 when he caught on fire while freebasing cocaine, he incorporated the ordeal into his later routines. He battled drug and alcohol addictions for years. An admitted "junkie" at the time, Pryor spent six weeks recovering from the burns and much longer from his addictions.

Despite his health troubles, he was happy and in good humor in his final days, said his wife Jennifer Lee Pryor. "He will be missed, but will forever live in thousands and thousands of hearts and continue to impact and inspire people with his truth and his pain, which he turned into comedy brilliantly," she said.

Even in poor health, his comedy was vital. At a 1992 performance, he asked the room, "Is there a doctor in the audience?" All he got was nervous laughter. "No, I'm serious. I want to know if there's a doctor here." A hand finally went up. "Doctor," Pryor said, "I need to know one thing. What the fuck is MS?" Pryor was married six times.

Joe M. Offers $100,000 Bounty on Florida Murderer

The man donating $100,000 to solve the murder of runaway Marissa Karp sounded almost as outraged as the victim's father. "Screw justice; I want revenge."

Joseph Mammana, a Pennsylvania businessman with his own criminal past, stood alongside Gary Karp on Tuesday pledging the reward for the conviction of the person who dumped the girl's body along Alligator Alley in 2002. "I don't want an eye for an eye. I want two for one," said Mammana, near a billboard with the girl's photograph and $100,000 in large numerals overlooking the Interstate 95 exit ramp to Griffin Road.

They hope that advertising the reward on America's Most Wanted will produce results, though no air date has been set. "Money is the motivating factor for everything we do;" it has persuaded spouses and siblings to turn on each other, Mammana said.

The CEO of Yardley Farms outside Philadelphia has made headlines for funding campaigns to solve high-profile killings such as the Natalee Holloway case in Aruba. He said his donations are meant to make amends for a past that included serving time behind bars in Florida. He did not elaborate, but The Associated Press reported last year that Mammana was jailed in the 1980s on charges of aggravated assault, drug possession, fraud, car theft and identity theft.

Karp's father spotted Mammana on a MSNBC talk show discussing his anti-crime efforts. "His statement from the get-go was, `don't judge me on my past, judge me on my present deeds,'" Karp said. "I didn't want his money. I wanted his reach" to the media.

Three years ago, Marissa Karp put a face on the problem of foster children state officials had been unable to find. The runaway was hiding in Hallandale Beach before her disappearance, but her body was found discarded under a bridge just over the Collier County line.

My daughter's name is Marissa Elan Karp and on August 19, 2002, her body was found shot and dumped in a canal off of Alligator Alley between Ft. Lauderdale and Naples. She was only seventeen at the time of her murder.


Marissa had always wanted to be a teacher. She was a normal, happy kid until her mother died in 1996. She had trouble dealing with her grief and began acting out. As time went on, her problems became more severe and she became more and more aggressive and at times was even violent.

On August 19, 2002 a local fisherman found the body of Marissa stuffed in a plastic bag, floating in the water near the Collier-Broward county line. Marissa had been shot to death before being stuffed in the plastic bag and tossed in the alligator-infested water.

Police have met with her alleged boyfriend on several occasions, but no one has been arrested in connection to her death. There have been very few leads in this case... On behalf of Marissa and the countless who can't speak for themselves, please never end your endeavor to close those cases.

Dave Holloway Offically Endorses Aruba Boycott!

MERIDIAN, Miss. - The father of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway would like Mississippi to join a travel boycott of Aruba to protest the way officials there have handled the disappearance of his daughter.

Dave Holloway, a Meridian insurance agent, said he has called the governor's office to urge Gov. Haley Barbour to join Alabama Gov. Bob Riley and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the travel boycott of the Dutch Caribbean island.

MOTHER PUTS 3-MONTH OLD BABY IN CLOTHES DRYER

This just sickens me. I am a mother, and I cannot imagine doing this to a 3-month old child, let alone ANY CHILD. What the hell was this woman thinking? Or should I say girl? She is only 18 and already on her second kid! What does that say? I say if she is convicted give her the death penalty. I find it unfathomable to purposely harm an infant...especially your own flesh and blood. Where was this girl's parents? Where was the father of the child?

I'd like to see what her defense will be...post partum depression psychosis? Who knows...I'm hoping to find more information as this case progresses.

BOGALUSA, La. — A mother was booked on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly placing her 3-month-old son in a clothes dryer and turning it on.

The infant had third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body and suffered blunt force trauma to the head, the St. Tammany Parish coroner said.

Police Sgt. Darryl Darden said Lakeisha Adams, 18, called police to her home on Monday to report that someone had killed her child. When officers arrived, they found Jailand Adams on a sofa. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Darden said Adams admitted during questioning to putting the infant in the dryer and turning it on, but did not say why. Adams also has a 1-year-old child who was placed in state custody, police said.

If convicted, Adams faces death by injection or a life sentence. The first-degree murder charge is mandatory under Louisiana law because the victim was under age 12.

AKRON, Ohio — The Ohio woman who found the bodies of two missing New Hampshire children said Monday she had been searching with her dog for months on a personal mission that her friends and family considered an obsession.

Stephanie Dietrich, a grocery store cashier, said she was motivated to look for Sarah Gehring, 14, and her brother Philip, 11, by their mother's public plea for help. The children's father, Manuel Gehring, shot them to death in 2003 and told authorities he buried the bodies somewhere along a 700-mile stretch of Interstate 80 across the Midwest. He gave investigators several details about the spot but said he could not remember the location, then committed suicide in jail before a trial.

Dietrich, 44, said she went out searching with her dog more than 40 times since July near her Akron home because of clues suggesting the gravesite could be in the region. Investigators had concluded in 2004 that pollen found on dirt on Gehring's minivan and shovel suggested that the soil most likely came from northeastern Ohio.

Last Thursday, Dietrich was looking in the well-to-do suburb of Hudson for things like tall grass, sewer pipes and a wood pile that the father described when her 101-pound mixed breed dog, Ricco, stopped in the woods and "just laid down and started looking at me." Dietrich said she saw a small mound with twigs covering it. She started digging, came upon a plastic bag and pulled out what appeared to be part of a cross made of willow twigs and duct tape. She called police on her cell phone, and the children's bodies were removed from a shallow grave.

Dietrich said she kept a 2-inch-thick folder of news articles and tips from the Internet and often woke up in the middle of the night to read it. "It was like a personal challenge. Not like it was a game. I knew it was serious," she said. "My family members and friends were like ready to have an intervention because I was obsessed with it."
