BAKERSFIELD -- Sherry Brians, the Buttonwillow school teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 12-year-old student pleaded not guilty Friday.
The official court documents with interviews of both Brians and the child depict an inappropriate relationship that lasted a little over a month.
In the court documents, the 12-year-old student said in an interview with Sheriff's Deputies he and Brians hugged and kissed between 25 and 30 times in Brians' classroom at Buttonwillow Elementary.
Brians admitted to the relationship to investigators, saying she hugged and kissed her student eight to 10 times from November of last year until Dec. 16, the last day before winter break.
Both Brians and the victim said there was nothing beyond hugging and kissing, kisses that the victim said lasted less than a minute and Brians called "pecks."
Also discussed in the documents was a love letter from Brians to the victim, which the victim's parents found in his backpack and Brians admitted to writing.
She also admitted to having inappropriate feelings for the victim. The parents of the victim began suspecting something inappropriate when Brians would call the victim regularly at home.
One of the parents overheard the ending of the conversation, where both the the victim and Brians told each other "I love you with all my heart."
Brians admitted to saying that, but said she tells all her students the same thing.
