Ex-teacher gets life in prison for sex assault of 12-year-old tourist
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A former teacher was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old English tourist in a hotel elevator. Carl Bradley Moore, 37, of Kissimmee, pleaded guilty in January to lewd or lascivious molestation, false imprisonment and battery charges.
Judge Jose Rodriguez said in sentencing him Thursday that he didn't believe Moore could be rehabilitated. "This is something that occurred not once, but at least twice and possibly a third time," Rodriguez said.
Moore apologized to the victim and her family, none of whom were in the courtroom, and said the victim should not blame herself. Moore followed the girl late on July 18 from the parking lot into the elevator at The Enclave resort. According to officials, he reached under her shirt and touched her genitals through her shorts, officials said.
The girl told investigators she screamed and bit Moore's hand when he tried to muffle her. She pushed the elevator alarm and escaped when its doors opened.
