OREGON CITIZENS DO THEIR OWN POLICE WORK

Five Young Adults Tackle,
Detain Rape Suspect Until Police Arrive

(Source)--Oct. 29, 2007 — Five good Samaritans disrupted the alleged rape of a 22-year-old Oregon woman, chasing down and tackling the suspect until authorities arrived, police said. Police in Salem, Ore., responded to a 911 call early Saturday morning from a young woman who reported that she and four friends had just confronted a man who appeared to be raping an unidentified woman along a busy road about three miles from the city's downtown. (WHERE were the POLICE along that BUSY ROAD?)

When police arrived, they found a bloodied 37-year-old Paul Landingham being detained by three men and two women, all about 20 years old. (As for the women "detainers"...you GO GIRL!) They also discovered a woman who allegedly had been raped and physically assaulted by Landingham.

"It appears to be a complete stranger-on-stranger situation," Lt. Dave Okada told ABC News, adding that the alleged rape victim, already suffering from a leg injury that required that she use crutches, had been at a local tavern before being accosted on her walk home.

(Michelle's note:) What does the fact that she was at a local tavern have to do with it? Where was the RAPIST before he attacked her? No mention of that, is there. Already attacking the victim...typical.

Katie Porter, 20, was among the five young adults traveling in a car that passed the crime scene outside an apartment complex. Both Landingham's and the woman's pants were pulled down, Porter said. While she initially thought the two might just be "drunk lovers," the group became suspicious and collectively decided to turn around for a closer look. As they approached the apartment complex for a second time, Porter said, Landingham began to get up and the woman screamed for help. At this point, Porter said, all five passengers knew something was wrong. "He got off the girl and started running," Porter said. "The three guys ran out and went over and tackled him."

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for injuries sustained in the alleged assault and released. Each of the five good Samaritans provided statements to police before they were allowed to go, Porter said. One of the young male adults hurt his hand during the scuffle with Landingham, an injury photographed by police. "I'm really glad that we went back," Porter said. "She could have easily died."

Okada, the spokesman for the Salem police, warned against civilians simply taking justice into their own hands.

(Michelle's note:) That is most LUDICROUS statement I have ever heard in this day and age. This woman was being raped! Any readers out there, please answer this... If you were with a group of people (not just by yourself) would you just WALK on by if you saw a girl being strangled and brutally raped? There is no way in hell I would keep walking and wondering... The guy is lucky he looks like he does because if I were there, his head wouldn't be intact.

The police can't protect us, so we as citizens have to stop criminals ourselves.

"You don't know whether a suspect is armed or what their mind frame is," he said. But Okada agreed the five passersby played a critical role in disrupting Saturday's crime. "In this case, it very potentially saved the victim from further injury," he said, "or death."

Landingham is being held without bail at the Marion County Correctional Facility. He faces charges of first-degree rape charge, assault and strangulation. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

NEW INDUCTEE IN THE BAD PARENT HALL OF FAME--MARY SCAGGS

A REAL "SCAG"

Mary Scaggs. What a perfect name for a really "scaggy", mentally disturbed mother and human being. This 28-year old woman (remember she is an ADULT...not some stupid 18 year old...no excuse either way--but what she did is WAY beyond ANY excuse.)

Turns out good old Mary put WHISKEY (probably the really cheap stuff, too...) in her 4 month-old infant's formula because she said her baby was "teething". My first instinct? "This is the biggest load of horse crap I've never heard!" First of all, 4 months is pretty early to start "teething", and IF SO, then WHY WHISKEY? Why not baby ambusol?

My initial prognosis? A mentally disturbed, potentially post-partum depressed woman who couldn't stand her child crying and wanted her to SLEEP. She is probably a single mother with multiple children and no male/father help. Now that is just my GUESS. If I'm wrong, then someone please correct me.

I'm sick of preaching my usual uppity sarcastic "Darwin's Theory"...let's "fix" or kill off all the stupid people. Because like it or not, no matter how much we laugh about it or complain about them, and "what is wrong with our society?", it is STILL going on and it is going to continue.

We have to figure out as a community...an interested group with a common goal to get involved and stop what is going on. You know those people who condone illegal or unacceptable behavior and just turn their cheek. Those people know who they are.

The other people out there who I HOPE are the other decent percentage that comes forward when they see or feel something "strange" and say, "Hey...I don't think this lady has both oars in the water...can you check on her and her baby?"

This child could have DIED.

Another crucial BOTTOM LINE: Where is the father??? I will refrain from my usual "generalizations", so I will give whoever this "sperm donor" is the benefit of the doubt. However, I'd be a terrible juror...I'd put money on what I'm thinking...and I DON'T gamble.

Here's the sick story:

(Indianapolis, IN)--A mother was arrested after giving her 4-month-old girl whiskey in her bottle, police said. Indianapolis Metro police said Mary Scaggs, 28, faces two counts of neglect of a dependent and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A test revealed that the child had a blood-alcohol level of 0.048. Investigators said Scaggs told the hospital that she had put whiskey on the girl's gums because she was teething. Police later determined that Scaggs had put whiskey in the girl's bottle, mixed with formula to try to get her to stop crying.

UPDATE--SKAGGS MOTHER MAKES EXCUSES--ISN'T THAT TYPICAL?

A grandmother is defending her daughter accused of feeding whiskey in a baby bottle to her 4-month-old girl. Skaggs' mother said her daughter made a big mistake, but that she didn't mean to hurt the girl.

Excuse: "She wasn't doing anything to hurt the baby, and she thought she was helping the baby because the baby had been up all night crying," said Skaggs' mother, who didn't want to be identified. "It wasn't anything in malice or intent to harm in any way, shape or form."

If she is so willing to stand up for her daughter,
why doesn't she want to be identified?

Excuse: "It was not intended that way. The only thing she was trying to do was soothe the baby and have her get out of pain,"

Excuse: Skaggs' mother said her daughter tried to soothe her crying baby's pain by rubbing whiskey on her gums, a so-called home remedy that Skaggs told police she had tried before.

"Apparently, it didn't work like it did the first time. (She's done this more than once? Go figure...) The baby continued to cry, so she added whiskey to the formula," said Indianapolis Metro police Sgt. Matt Mount.

Skaggs told police she poured some whiskey in the bottle, mixed with formula, and fed it to the girl, who passed out. Officials said they think the infant consumed about 2.5 ounces of whiskey. The baby is doing fine and has been placed in foster care. Skaggs faces two counts of neglect of a dependent and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

FIRST PRIESTS...NOW PASTORS?

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A Portland pastor accused of rape was arrested Monday at his home in Ridgefield, Wash. Police said they linked Sergio Alvarizares, 38, to the sexual assault of eight women who are associated with his church.

Officers responded to the Casa Del Padre Church on Northeast Alberta Street on a disturbance call last month. When police arrived, they found several members of the church arguing with Alvarizares about allegations of improper sexual contact, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Later that night, six women reported sexual assault to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. Two more alleged victims have been identified since the initial reports.

The Casa Del Padre Church primarily serves Portland's Spanish-speaking population. Alvarizares is facing one count of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree attempted rape and 10 counts of first-degree sex abuse. He was booked into the Clark County Jail Monday and signed a waiver for extradition.

LISTEN UP CRAIG STEBIC! YOU CAN PROSECUTE WITHOUT A BODY!

Over the weekend I was watching MSNBC and the show "Dark Heart--Iron Hand". The episode was called "Missing or Murdered?" At the end of the segment it detailed the case of Carrie Culbertson. Carrie went missing and her body was never found. However, she was declared dead and a grand jury indicted her boyfriend and was found guilty for her murder...even WITHOUT a body.

Hey Craig Stebic...watch out
for Ohio v. Doan (1997)!

Carrie Culbertson was 22 years-old when she disappeared on August 28, 1996 from Blanchester, Ohio. Carrie was with friends and was dropped off at her house at approximately 11:30 p.m. A neighbor saw Carrie being dropped off and then a few minutes later saw Carrie's 1989 red Honda CRX leave the driveway and down the street.

That was the last anyone ever saw Carrie Culbertson.

The next morning, Carrie's mother, Debbie Culberson noticed Carrie's car was not in the driveway. She immediately began searching for Carrie with the first stop being the home of Carrie's longtime boyfriend, 24-year-old Vincent Doan. Carrie's car was not there and Vincent was not home.

When Carrie's mother spoke to Vincent he first told her he hadn't seen Carrie in three days. He later changed his story by telling her that Carrie drove to his home and honked her horn around 12:30 a.m. He claimed Carrie was drunk, so he closed his door and ignored her. However, the friends Carrie was with that evening say she only drank one beer and was not intoxicated.

His story changed again when Carrie's mother visited Vincent Doan again. This time he stated she drove by his house and he came out of the house in a towel to talk to her. He claimed she sped off when he stated he no longer loved her.

Obsession

Vincent Doan was obsessed with Carrie. He called her constantly during work and all hours of the day and night. The obsession turned to violence.

"According to Carrie's mother, Debbie Culberson, Doan smugly told her he "only" slapped Carrie around, but never hit her with his fist. On another occasion, Carrie told friends that scratch marks on her face were caused by frantic efforts to pull Doan's smothering hands off her nose and mouth.

The turning point in Vincent and Carrie's relationship may have come on July 28, 1996 — exactly one month before Culberson disappeared.

Carrie allegedly told several people close to her that Doan attacked her with a space heater, causing a gash in the back of her head that required five medical staples to close. Doan allegedly instructed her to say she hurt herself by falling on his front porch.

But this time, unlike earlier incidents, Carrie and her mother went to the Blanchester police department and filed misdemeanor assault charges against Vincent Doan. After Culberson's disappearance, those charges were ultimately dropped because the now-missing woman was unable to appear as a witness.

Despite pressing charges against Doan, Carrie continued her relationship with him. Some close to her theorize she was unable to tear herself away from him, but others say she feared Doan would kill her and her family if she ever tried to leave him. " (Source)
