Michelle’s Controversial Question of the Day
Would you like to divert your tax dollars for
other needed resources or purposes?
other needed resources or purposes?
Should the government pay for a vasectomy or tubal ligation for those men and women on welfare who are willing?
I am absolutely not generalizing, but in many cases, people who are dependent on welfare and other government assistance have quite a number of children, do not work and are not paying taxes when the rest of us suffer the burden of paying for their basic needs. (I am not including those with disabilities and who are unable to work).

This would be on a voluntary only basis and free to those who qualify.
Please Note: I'm NOT suggesting taking away
anyone's civil liberties, rights, or freedom of choice
by forced sterilization

Heck yeah - that would save tons of money, as well as make life better for these people.
Michelle for President!
You open a bigger issue with this question: public health care. I'll put my liberal two cents in: I think all citizens of the United States should have access to affordable, quality health care, including reproductive services. Perhaps if some of these so-called "pariahs of American society" (by the way, my mom and her kids are in this group--and my mom is not single, nor black!) were able to get assistance for mental illness, drug addiction, birth control, etc. they may better become the hard-working, efficient Americans we love.
Julie--
My thoughts were not geared towards public health care. That's an entirely different issue and way too complicated to address.
In addition, I never said that people on welfare were "pariahs of American Socity" nor did I generalize ANYONE as black, single, or otherwise.
In the situation at hand regarding your mother, it is possible that she has better access to these programs you speak of.
The laws regarding welfare in Wisconsin (where your mother lives) are not the same as Indiana. I think that many welfare recipients in Indiana are unaware of the opportunities and tools they can use to better themselves. This could possibly stem from our local and state government's lack of educating these people of those possibilities.
Absolutely...as long as it is obtained with informed consent.
