THE DEBATE CONTINUES...

A REBUTTAL FROM MY ANONYMOUS BLOG READER

Anonymous quotes my previous post

"Then why are republicans helping out the Iraqi people? If that is a true or logical statement, then the same should apply here. When using that statement, you are saying that the Iraqi people should be self-reliant and not rely on the government (even the United States) to help. So why is our government (republican-backed) helping them? The Iraqi people are not handicapped…they are self-reliant, right? Their culture and fundamental religious beliefs and nature have been around for thousands of years…way before the Puritans crossed the Atlantic and killed for land that belonged to someone else."

Anonymous argues first point

I'm glad you were able to throw in an anti-war statement in a post about race in America and which party really cares for the poor and black. To answer your Iraq point I'll just say the Iraqi's were being murdered and raped and toutured by a evil dictator. Yes i believe they are a self-releient people when they have FREEDOM they can show how self-reliant they can be those Iraqi's have never had true freedom they have lived under an opressive regime for many many years (and please do not compare the oppression that american blacks suffer to that of Iraqi's AMerican minorities today enjoy more freedom than at any other time in our countries history) anyway yes the Iraqi people will become self reliant once the shackles of opression (dictatorship) are removed. That situation in no way resembles what is going on in this country.

Michelle’s Response:

I am not intertwining the issue at hand with the war, and I don’t believe I ever used an “anti-war statement” as you claimed. I merely used the Iraqis as an analogy of how the government is being hypocritical when they take their sweet time to pick and choose what is best for ‘their bottom line’. Money is any politician’s bottom line…but their image is even more important. Especially for a president who has an all time low approval rating in history. And yes, believe it or not, blacks are comparable to the Iraqis in certain situations. Even though our laws state that black Americans have rights, they are still not considered ‘equal’ by many.

It’s the sad truth, but you know I’m right. If you didn’t agree, then we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Anonymous's second argument:

My entire point of my post is that Democrats are the one who perport to be for helping the poor and black but in reality it is their policies that keep these people this way. And they do it for one main reason to gain their vote...they tell these people "oh don't vote for that Republican he will cut your government aid" Democrats should be ashamed that they can bus these same people to the polls to vote for Democrats on election day yet the deomcratic mayor and governor could not provide these same buses to evacuate the poor and people who do not own vehicles. Obviously the people who refused to leave the city only have themselves to blame. my whole point in pointing out the bus use for voters and not for evacuees is to show that it seems that democrats seem to care about votes more than people's lives. so Mr. Wests tirade could have been directed at the govornor or mayor as wellbut Bush is hated by so many people it is understandable that if something goes wrong you blame the guy you hate.

Michelle’s Rebuttal

ALL politicians do what they have to do to gain votes. Democrats AND Republicans. FDR is dead and it is no longer 1939. These parties choose not to compromise and work together for the common good of all. As a result, the citizens of America suffer.

As for your comment about the New Orleans democratic mayor and governor not providing evacuation for people, I can tell you this: As a mayor or a governor of a very poor state, they don't have the ‘clout’ in Washington like other larger states, in addition to other social setbacks (i.e., the governor of Louisiana is a woman and the mayor of New Orleans is black). Believe it or not, they can't just call up Washington and demand help. Unfortunately, our government doesn’t work that way. The bureaucracy and policies that are in place are extremely inefficient, and as a result are consistently untimely in handling catastrophes.

It always comes down to their argument of who was right and who was wrong. And now its “blame the victim”. “They should have gotten out of there…it’s their own fault.” This is a classic example of passing the blame and not accepting fault for one’s own actions or inactions.

Anonymous, let’s just agree to disagree. No one has the answers to any of these questions. They are only our thoughts and opinions. I appreciate your time in addressing your opinion. Keep reading and keep blogging.

Thanks— Michelle
