A Criminal Profile--Wanted Rapist and Murderer in South Carolina
By Meri, MSS Contributor
This assessment is in part based on what I have heard reported and on my previous experience. Without a crime scene report I can't do a full profile but I'll give it my best shot.
Pre-Offense and Post-Offense behavior is key. How did the perp act before the crime was committed? Was he stalking the victim? Did he know her or did he have a previous record of similar offenses. Regarding Post-offense behavior, what did he do after committing the crime? Did he run, hide, go about his normal business, act suspicious, brag? It all factors into a profile.
The guy possibly had a truck so does that tell us anything? Is he in a business where hauling is required or does that indicate that he's middle class as opposed to a sports car owner or a large car owner. It might reflect on his age. I am still thinking that he will be someone who was watching her and saw her previous to killing her and knew where she lived. I am betting that he was at her door or near her apartment when she got home that night. Her friends did NOT see her go into her apartment.
Was he trying to have sex with her and she fought him off so he grabbed the first thing handy (the bikini top) to shut her up and keep her from yelling? He obviously didn't have a weapon on him so he used what was handy (again, an unorganized act of homicide as opposed to an organized one where the perp brings gloves, rope, etc.) I would put his age at the 18-35 year range leaning on the younger side of that equation and I think that he was not threatening looking or that he had done anything to scare her when he may have encountered her prior to going to her apartment o kill her.
That makes me think that he was normal looking and blended in well with the students since it's a college town. I see a blonde but I could be totally wrong on that one and I see him as medium to tall. I also see him as strong and athletic to a certain extent because she was an athletic girl and had some strength of her own.
He is a white male in his 20's to VERY early 30's. He has a sex problem in that he has a difficult time getting an erection and probably wanted to rape Tiffany but couldn't do it. He most likely ejaculated or left DNA on her bed sheets which the police found to be missing from the apartment. He took the sheets because he is sophisticated enough to know that his DNA could get him caught and convicted.
He is a sexual psychopath who has fantasies of rendering women helpless and controlling them. He does not have good control over his life's circumstances and feels personally inadequate as a man. His motive for killing Tiffany was NOT robbery.
I believe at the very least approached other women prior to the killing and most likely has raped or attempted to rape other women in the past. He is not of an upper class background and probably not a full-time student at Clemson. I would say that he is works with his hands and that his SUV was not worth much monetarily. I believe that he is of medium height and strong. Not over-weight to the point of being fat but not real skinny either. He may have served some time in prison for anything from attempted robbery to burglary and/or rape or attempted sexual assault.
I believe that he has committed petty offenses since he was very young. I also believe that he WILL definitely re-offend and that his need for feeding his sexual fantasies has grown stronger. I also believe that if he did ejaculate in Tiffany's apartment it happened either while he was killing here or right afterwards. I believe that he watches a LOT of porn on the Internet and hangs out where Clemson coeds congregate.
I also believe that he watched Tiffany prior to the murder and knew that she was living alone at the time of the murder. I think that she may have seen him around prior to her killing and let him in or that she failed to lock her door that night (the most likely scenario based on what her friends and neighbors have said about the kids living there not usually locking their doors). He has changed his normal behavior since the murder and is acting differently than usual.
Someone has noticed or suspects that something is wrong if not outright suspecting him of the killing. Possible loss of appetite and definitely an increase in booze consumption or drugs. If he is a drug user or boozer he is doing it more than usual.
I DO NOT believe that Tiffany had a relationship with him or that she had an angry boyfriend or anyone in her circle who would want to harm her. I still think that he has light to medium colored hair and that it may be thinning. (Don't ask me why I think that, but I do). We can see how close I was when they catch him..which I hope is VERY soon because he's going to do it again. They need to get him quickly.
We don't know if he knocked her out before he killed her and that's why no one heard anything unusual. The police didn't have to hold the body very long so it was probably an obvious and one source COD (cause of death) and they were able to pinpoint the TOD (time of death) within 2 to 21/2 hours after her arrival. at her apartment. They probably had stomach contents that were not digested. . Strangling and no wounds other than possible defensive wounds present. No need to look for other weapons suggests that it was rather quickly carried out. Strangling is not as messy as knife or gunshot wounds.

I still believe that he is an unorganized killer and not as bright as your typical sociopath. She had $500 in her apartment which he didn't bother to search for and only removed her drivers license and ATM card from her purse which was out in plain sight. The motive was definitely NOT robbery. He was either on drugs, is stupid, or drunk because he attempted to use the ATM card 6 times at two different banks WITHOUT her PIN NUMBER and within two hours of killing her. The banks were not that far from her apartment so he had no way of knowing if someone had discovered her and might already be looking for him. Not the brightest bulb in the pack or VERY messed up.
He had the experience to know that banks have security cameras at their ATM's so he covered both his face and his head with scarves. He probably DOES NOT have his own ATM card or he would have known about the need for a PIN NUMBER. This tells me that he is not well-off financially or has been in prison because almost everyone has an ATM card.
