Family Prays For Safe Return Of Missing Girl
Indianapolis, IN--"Sweet Sixteen," a special birthday for any girl, has come and gone for an Indianapolis girl who has been missing for almost three weeks. Dozens of people gathered on Wednesday night to pray for Quanisha Dowdell. Her family is desperate to get her back home.
The vigil was held at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Quanisha's mother, Linda, said she fears her child is in danger. Vigil Held For Missing Girl "No, she's never stayed away, period. It's not like her at all," Linda said.
Witnesses told police that Quanisha was at the Woods Edge apartments swimming pool near 82nd Street and Center Run Drive on June 16 when she got into a car with a man who she might have met in an Internet chat room. Family members said Quanisha called home later that night and her mother asked where she was. Quanisha's uncle, William Patrick, said the girl sounded drugged and disoriented. "Her response was, 'I'm far, far away.' She asked her, 'Where is far, far away?' and she responded, 'I'm in Marion,'" Patrick said. When authorities traced the call, it came back to an Indianapolis pay phone.
Family members are certain Quanisha is being held against her will. They pray that she hasn't been harmed and are relying on faith to bring her home safe. "I know God hears the prayers of the righteous," Quanisha's mother said. "So, that the only way that I'm keeping my faith."
Witnesses said the man in the car Quanisha got into is black, with long braids. He was driving an older red 2-door car with dark-tinted windows. They also said a pit bull was in the car. The case remains under investigation. Police took the hard drive from Quanisha's computer and are following up on calls from a man who talked to Quanisha at home weeks before she went missing.
