GO AWAY JANE

WHY WON'T JANE FONDA GO AWAY?
Michelle's Opinion--Right off the Bat
Instead of waiting until you finish reading this news piece before I put in my usual '2 cents', I must harp immediately. I am sick and tired of stupid, uneducated, egotistical, self-righteous, pampered actors using their fame to get involved with government issues and announcing their opinion to all regarding this war. First of all, you people are ACTORS. Not politicans, not government officials, not soldiers, not anything except flakey, overpaid, mediocre talent. Please take my advice--stick to your day job. Don't voice your opinion and influence the millions of stupid Americans who can't think for themselves. Don't brainwash and market your great 'wisdom' to all the young people who look up to you and immediately believe every word that comes out of your pathetic mouths. In the case presented, I would like to tell Ms. Fonda to stick to the movies. Here's a thought: how about a "9-to-5 " Sequel? Do whatever it is you do, Jane. Go play tennis and drink martinis. Do your charity functions, speak at your award shows, get massages and relax at a weekend spa, shop on Rodeo with your ugly little weiner dog propped in your bag. Get your nails done, get a facelift and make another workout video for old ladies like yourself. You have no business getting involved in an already terrible situation that Bush and his administration has put not only Americans in, but the ENTIRE WORLD as well. Jane, if you are against the war, donate money and set up trusts and educational funds for the children who have lost their mother or father in the war. Donate your time, compassion and some cash to a grieving 24-year old widow and help her get back on her feet. There are many other ways to voice your 1st Amendment right.

'JIHAD JANE' STRIKES AGAIN?

Round two: Hanoi Jane is back in action. Fonda has announced plans for a cross-country bus tour this spring to protest the war in Iraq. It will be Fonda's first anti-war protest since Vietnam, when she was infamously photographed atop a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun. Actress Jane Fonda has launched an anti-Iraq war protest - infuriating veterans still seething from her Vietnam antics. It's her first active campaigning since being photographed laughing as she sat on a gun used by North Vietnamese troops to blow U.S. aircraft from the sky. The wounds from that stunt are still far from healed. "She should keep her mouth shut," said Iraq veteran Lee Hadziyianis, 33, of New Hyde Park, Queens. "She did enough damage in Vietnam. We don't need that again." Hadziyianis, a military police officer
and weapons specialist, went into Baghdad in May 2003. He returned to New York last year. "What does she expect to achieve?" he said. "The decision makers aren't going to be influenced by her. Even if they are, pulling the troops out early would mean all those guys who died died in vain. We need to finish the job, and having somebody with her reputation making a noise from home helps nobody." "It's like putting gasoline on a bonfire for so many veterans who will never forget what she did in Vietnam," said American Legion spokeswoman Ramona Joyce. "We don't want to see a Baghdad Jane."
SYNOPSIS OF WHY VETERANS HATE THE WORKOUT QUEEN
For those of you who are not familiar with HISTORY, shame on you. So here's a 'reader's digest' version of why Jane Fonda is such an idiot and hated by millions.
Background of Jane's Political Faux Pau
During a 1972 trip to North Vietnam, Jane Fonda propagandized on behalf of the North Vietnamese government, declaring that American POWs were being treated humanely and condemned U.S. soldiers as "war criminals". She later denounced them as liars for claiming they had been tortured. She began a two-week tour of the country conducted by uniformed military hosts. Fonda posed for pictures in which she was shown applauding North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gunners, was photographed peering into the sights of an NVA anti-aircraft artillery launcher, and made ten propagandistic Tokyo Rose-like radio broadcasts in which she denounced American political and military leaders as "war criminals." She then carefully arranged for a "press conference," with 8 POWs who had been tortured by their North Vietnamese captors. After setting them up she attempted to force them to deny they had been tortured, and decry the American war effort. Fonda apparently didn't notice (or care) that the POWs were delivering their lines under duress or find it unusual the she was not allowed to visit the prisoner-of-war camp (commonly known as the "Hanoi Hilton") itself. She merely went home and told the world that "[the POWs] assured me they were in good health. When I asked them if they were brainwashed, they all laughed. Without exception, they expressed shame at what they had done." She did, however, charge that North Vietnamese POWs were systematically tortured in American prison-of-war camps. To add insult to injury, when American POWs finally began to return home (some of them having been held captive for up to nine years) and described the tortures they had endured at the hands of the North Vietnamese, Fonda cried, "Do not hail to the POWs as heroes, because they are hypocrites and liars!" Fonda said the idea that the POWs she had met in Vietnam that had been tortured was "laughable". She stated, "These were not men who had been tortured. These were not men who had been starved. These were not men who had been brainwashed." She claimed the POWs that were tortured were "exaggerating, probably for their own self-interest.” She told audiences that "Never in the history of the United States have POWs come home looking like football players. These football players are no more heroes than Custer was. They're military careerists and professional killers" who are "trying to make themselves look self-righteous, but they are war criminals according to law."

AN EXAMPLE OF HOW KARMA WORKS:
While promoting her autobiography in Kansas City, April 2005, there was one 54-year-old Vietnam Veteran who stood in line for 90 minutes. He wasn't there to buy or read Fonda’s book or get her autograph. When he finally approached her, he told her he was a Vietnam Veteran and then spat tobacco juice in her face. Ironically, Fonda declined not to press charges.

Wait, didn't you want to be an actress?? :)

Personally, I'm OK with celebrities voicing their opinions. I mean, we do live in America, yes? Where we are free to express ourselves without fear of persecution? Wasn't that part of, oh what's that little document called, the Declaration of Independence? You can't tell me that only soldiers and politicians can have opinions about war?? Or that the nearly 50% of us who did NOT vote for George Bush (and the over 50% of us the first time around--DOWN with the electoral voting system!!) need to shut the hell up for 4 years??

Also, celebrities have the unique position of capturing an unending scroll of press detailing their every move, date, kiss, vacation, and wardrobe choice. (I admit it, I love US Weekly! What is Lindsay Lohan wearing and eating this week!?) Why not use that enviable podium to express something that matters to them? Unfortunately, there are some celebrities out there who are trying to give back to the world (go Angelina!!) and most of their efforts go unnoticed because all that's published is gossip on their affairs. I'm happy to see Jane got some press. Oh, and by the way, she and Ted Turner divorced in 2001.

Thanks for the clarification on Jane's marital status. It has already been deleted!

I believe in the freedom of speech, Julie, but when "influential" people start discussing things they are not experts on they do a disservice to all Americans and they put us in more danger.

I just hope Ms. Fonda chooses a different approach this time to voice her opinion. Not by denouncing the men and women who are risking their lives not only for America, but for Iraqis as well.

I also must comment that a lot of my feelings towards this subject has to do with my Dad. He is a Vietnam vet and told me stories when I was young about when he got back from the war the protestors would spit at the soldiers and scream obscene profanities. Those 'boys' (the average age of the Vietnam soldier was only 19) went over there and most of them had no choice, it was called A DRAFT. They were either killed, maimed, or psychologically marred in one way or another. And for these people to disrespect these brave young men the way they did makes me sick. Save your evil energy towards the politicans, Washington decision-makers and make wise choices when VOTING.

I will always be proud of all my male relatives that have served during wartime. My great-grandfather served in WWI, my grandfather received a Purple Heart in WWII, my great-uncle served in Korea, my Dad in VietNam, and my Brother is currently in the Navy.

I didn't vote for Bush, and neither did millions of other Americans, but can't you agree that the uneducated, ill-informed and easily manipulated 'folks' of the red states gave Bush his second pass to destroy the world?

Just something to think about...
