Illicit activity at the Northwest Park Annex has become a pervasive problem in recent months. The park is normally a haven for parents and their young children, but residents complained about some other activity that was not of a family nature.
"I have seen men performing unnatural acts that shouldn't be done in public," resident Charles Johnson said. Greenwood police arrested four men, one from Indianapolis and three from Greenwood, in an undercover operation.
"They're leading a double-life. They're coming here to meet other men, but they're not looking for long-term relationships. They're just looking for anonymous sex," Greenwood police Detective Matt Fillenwarth said.
Police got tips from park visitors, which prompted the sting. "I called police and had two of them arrested while I was in the park," Johnson said.
Greenwood police have stepped up their patrols in their park system. Parks department employees are often confronted by illicit activity that happens inside the bathrooms.
The illicit activity has parents concerned that the park may not be a safe place for children. "Now that I know that they made some arrests ... I think about it twice now," parent Jose Centeno said.

The four men face misdemeanor public indecency charges, which are punishable by up to one year in jail. Repeated public indecency convicts can be sentenced to up to three years behind bars.
